January 22, 2013

Well Happy New Year! I just wanted to drop you a line and say hey. I hope you are having a good winter and staying warm! I have been spending a lot of time with family and friends, and staying warm for the most part. My driver's side window got stuck half way down for a couple weeks there, and that sucked, but other than that, warm and toasty! On the bright side, I got to spend some time with my Dad while he helped me fix my window (a.k.a. he froze his butt off and slaved outside while I yelled words of encouragement from the window). Thanks Dad! I wonder if my Dad ever reads my website blog. I guess we'll find out...

I've been spending a lot of time this winter hanging out inside my own head and developing my vision a bit. I've been back and forth to Nashville to work on writing, and I took a few workshops while I was there (I highly recommend Rick Barker & Jason Blume). I've also been doing some reflecting and trying to absorb wisdom in order to confidently move forward. As with any career, uncertainty can drive one nuts. I have a tendancy to think too much and run myself in circles. I think it was best that I step back for a minute and spend some time with my own conscience. In the end, going with my gut almost always puts me back on track. I have to remember to always do that--go with my gut. And you should too! It's there for a reason.

I feel refreshed and I'm excited to go down new roads in 2013. Also, I wanted to give an "end of 2012" shout out to a few of my very good friends, Jimmy Pemberton, Michael Poorman, and Al Salzilo. They have been such a huge part in helping me inch along on my journey to wherever I'm going. Thanks guys.

I'm currently eating some granola cereal out of the box and little pieces of granola keep getting stuck in my keyboard. The "T" and "L" buttons make a little crunch sound when I press them. I like granola. I never know where to start when I write these blogs! I've realized, I'm not the best blogger. Blog writing is definitely my weak point (which is completely different than songwriting, mind you). If you've been on my YouTube page (youtube.com/user/kileyevans), you may have seen some of my video blogs. I remember the first time I tried a video blog. It felt so strange, like I was talking to an inanimate object (which I was). I was watching some of my oldest blogs from two years ago not too long ago. It's kind of funny to look back at yourself on video and see how you've changed over time. It's WEIRD! Now I'm most comfortable when I'm talking to my inanimate computer/camera friend and writing out blogs is strange. The world-is-a-changin'! Anyways, here's what's going on:

I've been mentioning that I'm working on finishing a brand new and very different EP which I'm hoping to release sometime this fall/winter. Aside from that, I'm planning on spending some time in Nashville this fall and winter to get some good quality writing in! This is the best time of year for writing (in my opinion..so far). I'm going to be concentrating most of my efforts on writing my butt off this winter, so you may notice a little lack of shows in the meantime. I will, of course, still be doing some shows and acoustic performances here and there, so I can try out some of my new stuff! Check back with my show schedule every so often for updates.

I released a music video for One More Spin Around in September! If you haven't seen it, check it out:

I was featured on WCVB-TV's "Chronicle" this month! They did a "New England Goes Country" piece, which was a ton of fun to be a part of. If you missed it, check out the segment here: http://www.wcvb.com/chronicle/New-England-Goes-Country/-/12523032/16755490/-/u2ugj8z/-/index.html

July 30, 2012

WELL! As of the lately, things have been crazy and busy and exciting. We have been shooting a music video for my song "One More Spin Around" that I released back in May. We have been shooting all over the place...in my back yard, in a local market, in a laundromat, and in a garage/barn. I really cannot wait for this video to be done. I often get heckled because I'm super corney (intentional) and my thoughts are often "cliche" which is ironic because I claim that cliches are my pet peeve! I know...that doesn't make sense. This music video is just going to be one big ball of cliche, corney, weirdness. I've learned a lesson while on this music career pursuit of mine, that things are never perfect, never come out how you wanted them to, and if you just let things be what they are, they are meaningful and worth while in one way or another. You can always grow and learn. And just a sidenote: I realized after the fact that I wore the same exact pair of ripped jeans that I wore in the music video shoot for "Johnny Depp" except over the past year, the holes in the knees have gotten way bigger. I guess I like those jeans!? Weird...

Which brings me to my next topic of unorganized thoughts. I'M WORKING ON NEW MUSIC FOR YOUUUU!! I'm not sure if I will release a full EP in the fall or what...but I'm really proud and pumped (haha...PP!) about this new collection of songs that I'm recording. And I can't wait for you to dive into the sea of lyrical and melodical content that I have concocted for you. I think you will be refreshed and delighted. MHMM!! And if you catch any of my solo acoustic shows in the near future, you may hear a few of them.

I've really been digging The Civil Wars this past month. And I'm telling everyone, because I feel passionate about it.

Next paragraph...be on the look out for a ton of new stuff going on regarding my shows, music, and way of being. Lot's of ideas and excitement plus lots of action equals cool stuff happening. Period space space.

Over and outski,
-Kiley-

I am still on a high from this past weekends events! I am the extremely proud recipient of The New England Music Award for "Country Act of the Year (2011)" and The Limelight Magazine Music Award for "Song of the Year (2011)" for my song, Johnny Depp. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to either vote for these awards, come to a show, buy my music, or root me on in any way.

The only way I can think of to keep saying thank you (other than yelling it out my window every morning) is to keep putting out new music for you! I am so excited to announce that I will be releasing a brand NEW SINGLE ON MAY 1st, 2012!

My band and I are really looking forward to this summer and hoping to see you very soon! Thanks, again.

February 22, 2012

I hope everyone's year is off to a good start! I made a few New Year's resolutions and I have been relatively good (hehe) at sticking to them--(curse you peanut butter cups!?!) Although I may have given into the irresistable temptations of peanut butter and chocolate, there are a few resolutions that I am sure I will stick to. One of those resolutions is to play MORE SHOWS in 2012 and to constantly have new stuff to add to my performances, whether it be new tunes, new locations, or new instruments. And of course, you can be expecting full band performances starting this spring/summer! Another resolution is to get NEW MUSIC to you faster and more consistently. My team and I have been working on some brand new tunes this month, and I'm so excited to get those to you.

Hoping to see each of you very soon! Have a good rest of the wintah ;)

January 1, 2012

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I can't believe another year has gone by. I would like to say THANK YOU, once again, for all the support I have received this past year. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such an amazing team of people that enable me to be doing what I love.

At one of my recent shows, someone approached me and told me that one of the tracks off my EP (Papa's Song), motivated her to reach out to her father, and start video chatting with him. She told me that she realized that he would only be around for so long to share his stories with her and her children. It means SO MUCH to me to get that kind of feedback, along with all the incredible support and encouragement that I get from all of you. So, thank you.

In the upcoming new year, you can look forward to a BRAND NEW EP, more show dates with a FULL BAND, new VIDEOS, and much more. I would like to remind you to please continue to request "Johnny Depp" on all your local radio stations (stations posted below). It is more important than ever!!

Have a great year! See you soon.

BIO

I'd love to say that I have always dreamed of becoming a singer/songwriter from the time I was a little girl, but for me, it definitely didn't happen that way. Actually, I had always thought I'd follow in my father's footsteps and pursue a career in engineering.

Throughout high school I took classes that were geared toward engineering, classes that would help prepare me for college. The summer after I graduated, I was getting ready to move away from home for the first time, into my dorm at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Just before I left, my dad made a last minute gesture. He decided to send me to school with his old acoustic guitar--the same guitar that he had taken to college with him years earlier. At that point I didn't really know how to play it, but I gladly accepted, because I knew that it would make me feel better to hold it when I was feeling homesick. Over the course of my freshman and sophomore years, I took my dad's guitar out and played it every time I missed home. By the end of my second year I had taught myself how to play, and started writing my own songs.

On a school break, one of my family members sent me a link to a songwriting contest hosted by CMT (Country Music Television). I decided to enter the contest and thought it would be a fun way to fill up some of my free time. I submitted my first original song, called, "The Only One," along with a homemade music video. "The Only One" ended up in the top 64 finalists of over 2,000 applicants.

I didn't return to college after that. Instead, I moved home and began to pursue a career as a songwriter and performer. It had always been my dream to follow in my father's footsteps, but I realized that engineering was not the only way that I could do that. Like my father, my true passion lies somewhere else…in music.

In the past couple of years I have been passionately pursuing my newfound dream. My song, "Johnny Depp," has been receiving airplay from commercial, local and college radio stations all over New England, and scattered stations across the US. This past year I received the "Songwriter of the Year" Award from the Massachusetts Country Music Association and recently received the "Country Act of the Year" Award from the New England Music Awards, as well as the "Song of the Year" Award from Limelight Magazine.

I still can't believe that I strayed from the "life and career plan" that I had set for myself since grade school, but I'm thrilled that I decided to follow my heart. I couldn't be happier.
