Music Artist Sites
Product DesignOverview:
I designed official artist websites for a range of talent across major labels, including Universal Music Group, UMG Nashville, Republic Records, Island Records, Def Jam Records, and Verve Records.
Each site was custom designed to capture the artist’s unique identity, aesthetic, and connection with their fans, while aligning with the creative standards of their label.
Featured Case StudySparklmami is an emerging retro soul and jazz fusion artist still developing a cohesive visual identity. The aesthetic references she provided were highly eclectic and disconnected, a scattered mix of ideas lacking unity.
The challenge was to refine her unconventional inspirations into a cohesive brand direction and visual language, while creating the journal/scrapbook-style horizontal scrolling website she envisioned.
Design Approach
Curating Cohesion
The artist provided an extensive and eclectic range of imagery and aesthetic references. My role was to create cohesion from this wealth of inspiration by curating a focused set of visual elements that felt connected and true to her artistic world.
Visual elements included:
• Vintage TVs and old school graph paper
• Halftone butterflies and halftone eyes (drawn from her music videos)
• Dried florals, postcards, and tape textures
I followed the artist’s direction while carefully selecting and refining assets that could work harmoniously together. The goal was to translate her distinctive, layered aesthetic into a cohesive visual language that felt authentic across the brand and digital experience.
Visual Language
Given the chaotic, journal-style horizontal scrolling experience and Sparklmami’s intentionally eclectic and “messy” aesthetic, content was easily getting lost in the visual richness.
To solve this, I created a consistent navigation language using a custom animated pink arrow. On hover, the arrow would animate to clearly guide users toward “See All” buttons and additional content, helping visitors navigate the experience without disrupting the raw, scrapbook energy she wanted.
The Outcome
